Serving as a volunteer is a truly valuable two way experience. Volunteers’ talents, enthusiasm and time are priceless because of their impact and contribution to the success of this unique athletic event. 

Current volunteer opportunities for the ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC 2017, are posted below and include positions both Pre Race and on the day of the Race. 

Pre-Race Opportunities (30 October 2017 – 11 November 2017)

1. Athens Marathon Preparation & Logistics Centre, Faliro Indoor Hall (Tae Kwon Do Olympic Venue, volunteering period October 30-November 10, 2017)

  • Preparation of race kits distributed to all runners at the Athens Marathon EXPO

2. Athens Marathon EXPO & Registration Centre - Faliro Indoor Hall (Tae Kwon Do Olympic Venue, volunteering period November 6-11 November, 2017)

  • Distribution of Race Kits & Bibs to registered runners
  • Individual Entries Desks
  • Group Entries Desks
  • Information Desk 

3. Athens Marathon Desk at the Athens International Airport “El. Venizelos” (volunteering period November 8-11, 2017)

  • Welcome runners travelling from abroad and provide any needed information 

4. Parallel events (at Athens and Marathonas, November 9-11, 2017)

  • staffing and running the events' desk & secretariat


Race Day Opportunities, Sunday November 12th, 2017

  • Start of Marathon Race and Power Walking (Marathonas Start Venue)

Volunteers form teams that support Start area operations, like arrival of athletes, disembarkation and moving to startup area, provision of water and ponchos, management of clothing for transportation to finish area delivery point.  

  • Marathon course support stations 

Volunteers assist with the setup, operation and cleanup of support stations, that provide athletes with bottles of water, isotonic drinks, bananas, cereal bars and sponges and encourage runners to continue their effort 

  • Start and support stations of WIND10 km, WIND 5 km and Kids Run 1.200m road races 

Volunteers support operations like forming human chains - starting blocks’ separators, management of clothing (safekeeping and post-race delivery), crossroads crowd management, and staffing of fluid support stations. Volunteer opportunities remain the same during the afternoon 5km WIND road race 

  • Finish Area (Kallimarmaron Stadium)

 Volunteers support finish area operations like Spectator services, access control, water and isotonic drinks stations, distribution of heat sheets, crowd management and athletes flow to clothing delivery stations, medal engraving. Kindly note that medal distribution will be operated only by school teams
