Every runner who submits his/ her entry form is doing so voluntarily, agrees and fully commits to follow the rules and conditions of the event, as mentioned below.


General Terms & Conditions

• Eligibility to registrer and participate in the races of the event have runners who meet the specific conditions of participation stated in the event's Health Protocol, as described in the designated section of the official website of the event.

• The age limit to participate in the Marathon Race is 18+ years old and it concerns only able-bodied runners.

• The age limit to participate in the 10km Road Race is 12+ years old and it concerns only able-bodied runners.

• The age limit to participate in the 5km Road Race is 12+ years old and it concerns only able-bodied runners.

• The age limit to participate in the 1.2km Kids' Run is set from 9 to 12 years old and it concerns only able-bodied runners.

• In case of minor participants in the 1.2km Kids' Run or the 5km & 10km Road Races (children between 9 and 17 years old), the registration must be submitted by the person/parent exercising parental responsibility. By submitting the relevant entry form, the consent of the the person/parent exercising parental responsibility for the participation of the child in the event is assumed.

• SEGAS and the Organizing Committee of the event have the right to change the event’s schedule, the terms and conditions regarding participation and staging of the event, without prior notice, by posting such a decision on the website of event or of SEGAS.

• All participants consent to their personal data being transmitted to the Insurance company with which the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) cooperates in the framework of the event, for purposes realted to the insurance of partcipants in case of accident during the event.

• The photos and videos of the participants are uploaded on the webiste of the Official Photo Agency of the event, they are visible by the public and remain as such without time limitation, according to the contractual obligations of SEGAS. Any photographs may be purchased online following the event, through the website of the event's Official Photo Agency. In any case, the participant may contact the Organizers for any issues related to the processing stated in the current clause/paragraph.


Terms & Conditions of Registration

• Only runners that have dully, officially and in time registered for the event can participate in the «ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC» races.

• The “ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC” event takes place the day and time that has been announced as such, regardless of weather conditions. Only in cases of exceptional circumstances or other force majeur incident, SEGAS and the Organizing Committee of the event have the right to decide on the postponement of the start time or the cancellation of the event, depending on the current conditions. In such cases, the registration fee is not refunded to the registered runners.

• The personal data declared by the participant upon submission of entry form are true and correct. In case the entry form is submitted by a thrid party, it is granted that the participant consents to his/her personal data being given to SEGAS and to the Organizing Committee of the event by the third party.

• Registration to any of the “ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC” races is possible only through the online registration platform available in the official event’s website, or by any alternative way indicated by the Organizing Committee.

• SEGAS and the “ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC” Organizing Committee have the right to suspend, or close registrations without prior notice, by posting such a decision on the website of event or of SEGAS.

• A registration is considered valid on the condition that it has been successfully submitted and that the registration fee, as determined on the date of registration, is successfully paid, while the amount of the registration fee has been credited to the organizers’ accounts.

• Participants that settle the entry fee via card (credit/debit/prepaid) consent to their personal data being transmitted to the Bank, for reasons strictly related to the execution of the relevant transaction.

• Registrations to any of the “ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC” races, for which the full registration fee has not been paid within two (2) working days after the date that the entry form has been submitted, are cancelled with no prior notice.

It is forbidden to submit more than one registration in the same race by the same participant. Registrations, which for any reason do not follow the rules and conditions of the event, are canceled with prior notice and in accordance with the cancellation policy of the event.

• Changes on confirmed registrations (runners’ replacement, change of race etc.) are possible only upon relevant request to the Organizing Committee, according to the instructions stated at the "Registrations Management" section of the event's website.

• Cancellations of confirmed registrations are only possible in accordance to the cancellation policy of the event, as indicated in the designated section of the official website of the event.

• Post confirmation of the registration, change regarding the selected t-shirt size of the runner may be feasible upon request and only with the approval of the Organizing Committee.


Terms & Conditions for Race Bib and Kit Collection

• Race bibs and kits are personally collected by the registered runners themselves and only from the event’s Runners' Center during the days and hours announced. The registered runner needs to present a valid identification document (ID card, passport etc.) and any other documents indicated by the Organizing Committee. A registered runner may authorize another person to collect his/her race bib on his/her behalf from the event’s Runners' Center, as mentioned above, by presenting a copy of the ID card or other legal identification document (for example passport, driving license) of the registered runner, as well as and any other documents indicated by the Organizing Committee.

• In order to collect race bibs and race kits, it is required, in addition to presenting ID card or other legal identification document (eg passport, driving license) of the registered runner, to also present a copy of the “bib number notification e-mail” that states the runner’s race bib, and is sent to all registered runners.

• Runner replacement(s), and/or change in the selected race, are possible at the event’s Runners' Center only according the the instructions stated in the "Registrations Managemnet" section of the event's website.

Race bibs and kits are not sent anywhere, under any circumstances, either by regular mail or any other way to their rightful runner, before or during the operating days and hours of the event’s Runners' Center. Race bibs and kits that are not properly collected during the operating days and hours of the event’s Runners' Center, may not be sent or collected under any circumstances thereafter.


Terms & Conditions of Participation (Race Day)

• Every runner participates in the event at his/her own free will.

• Every runner participates in the event on his/her own responsibility and bears full responsibility as to his/her fitness condition and ability to participate.

• Participants n the “ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC" understand and agree that there is a health risk associated with group activities. They choose to register for this Event with full understanding of the risk, and in this framework, the Hellenic Athletics Federation and the Event Organizing Committee bears no responsibility in case of any potential damage of their health.

• Participants in the “ATHENS MARATHON. THE AUTHENTIC" are fully aware of and understand the full risks involved in their participation in the race, in regards to possible damages, or harm to their health.

• The Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) and the Organizing Committee of the event carry no responsibility in case of injury, damage, or any other harm that may be caused by participating, or spectating the event.

• Participants agree that their personal data are given to third parties for reasons related to timing, results' ranking and announcement on the internet. Personal data of the participants required during the registration procedure are stored and will be used for purposes only related to the staging of the event. By submitting an entry form, each participant consents to the storing of his/her personal data and its use for the purposes of the event.

• Participants agree that their personal data are provided to the Timing Company, with which SEGAS cooperates in the framework of the event, for the purpose of live electronic transmission of the results of the race, as well as the service of the Live Tracking Application during the race.

• Participants consent to the use of their image during the race by the organizers, sponsors, or other partners of the event for promotional purposes, with no right to claim full or partial compensation for that reason.

• By agreeing to current Terms & Conditions, the participant consents to his/her photos being taken by the event's photographers and the Official Photo Agency of the event. The event is being filmed, recorded and exploited by means of television, film, video or some other broadcast or media format. The participant agrees to the use and reproduction of his/her name, likeness, appearance and photograph. All such commercial rights in relation to the above belong entirely to SEGAS and the participant has no proprietary rights in relation to any film, photograph or other such recorded media, nor right to claim full or partial compensation for that reason.

• The race bib is personal and may not be conveyed, transferred, or be given to another runner under any circumstances.

• Participants are obligated to bear the race bib that they were given by the Organizing Committee of the event, on the front of their chest and not to cover it with any clothing or object. In any other case, it is possible that they are not included in the results of the race.

• Every participant is obliged to fill in, on his/her own responsibility, the data required at the back side of his/her race bib, whether it is relevant to contact information, or personal medical data for safety reasons.

• All participants must respect and follow the regulations of the event, before, during, and after the race.

• Participants are obliged to strictly follow the instructions of the organizers, volunteers, and event’s staff, including calls to abandon the course and stop the race.

• Arbitrary, and without the approval of the Organizing Committee, change in the starting block by a registered runner is prohibited and results in his/her erasure from the results of the race.

• Access to the race course, and the areas at the start/finish of the event is not permitted under any circumstances, to non registered runners (runners without obvious valid bib number).

• Any breach or non-compliance with the race regulations announced by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) and the international regulations of AIMS and World Athletics result in the disqualification of the participant from the event and erasure from the race results without any kind of compensation.

• Participants are obliged to read and respect the instructions provided by the Organizing Committee of the event, either electronically, or in printed format (such as Medical & Technical Instructions, Race Manual) and which have been announced in the official website of the event.

• Use of bicycle or other wheeled mean is not allowed on the race course, whether it is about a runner, or another accompanying person. In such case, the directly involved participant is excluded from the race and is called upon to withdraw from the event.

• The time limit to finish the Marathon Race is set to eight (8) hours from the start time of the race.

• The time limit to finish the 10km Road Race is set to ninety (90) minutes from the start time of the race.

• The time limit to finish the 5km Road Race is set to sixty (60) minutes from the start time of the race.

• The official time is the time from the starting gunshot. The net time is the time from the moment the participant passes the mat at the start line, until he/she crosses the relevant mat at the finish line.

• The race classification results from the official finish time. The net and split time is announced only for the information of the runner.

The finisher medal is given only to registered runners who participated and succesfully finished the race in time.

In case you wish to correct/amend the data of your registration and/or make any changes regarding your entry, you have to send a relevant request to one of the following email addresses:

After sending the request you will receive a response with any instructions you need to follow.


On the subject of your email request you need to mention the correlating title which refers to the change you wish to make based on the cases below:

 

1) Correction of Runners’ Basic Data

Refers to runners’ identification data (name, date of birth, nationality, phone numbers and email address) and not to name/ runner replacement.


2) Correction/ Add Finish time

Correcting or adding your best finish time is possible only until 10 September. After that date a penalty fee of €5.00* is applied.
On your email you need to mention your exact finish time (hh:mm:ss), the event and the year that took place. It is noted that we will only take under consideration times that took place in the years 2019 through 2022.

Attention:  Sending the request doesn’t imply automatic placement in the corresponding starting block. The finish time you submit is checked and in case of non-compliance with the above instructions or inaccuracies, the request will be denied.


3) Add a Note for Placement in the same starting block with a co-athlete

Adding a note for placement in the same starting block is possible only if the request is sent until 10 September. After this date, these requests are examined at the Runners’ Center & Marathon EXPO (see Case 8).

In the email request, the co-athlete's name and registration code must be mentioned. It is noted that the request must be sent by both runners; otherwise the request is not taken into account when placing you in a starting blocks. Finally, it is noted that in case the request is approved, the runners will be placed in the starting block corresponding to the slowest runner.

In case more than one person is recorded, the above procedure should be done by all interested parties.

→ Attention: Sending the request doesn’t imply automatic placement in the corresponding starting block. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the competition department and will only be approved  if deemed feasible.


 4) Change T-shirt size

You must mention the size you wish to receive. It is noted that such requests are accepted until 10 September.


5) Upgrade Registration Level

It is noted that such requests are accepted until 10 September.


 6) Change the Distance of Participation

Change in the distance of participation is possible without penalty fee until September 10.

In case a runner wishes to change his/her race of participation to a greater distance, he/ she needs to cover the fee difference between the races.

 In case a runner wishes to change the race of participation to a smaller distance, there is no refund of the fee difference. The runner has the option of donating the remaining amount to a NGO partnering with this event.

Requests for change in the distance of participation after September 10 are accepted, however a penalty fee of € 5.00* is applied regardless of the distance. In addition, the applicant must cover any fee difference between the races and registration levels.

7) Change the Registration Name/ Runner Replacement

A change in a runner's entry name is possible free of charge until September 10th. After this date, a penalty fee of € 5.00 * is applied.

The request for the registration name change needs to be sent by the Original Runner and he/she needs to state the personal information of the New Runner.

8) Change of Starting Block

Arbitrary change in the starting block by a registered runner is prohibited and results in his/her erasure from the results of the race.

This change can be made only at the Runners’ Center & Marathon EXPO and a penalty fee of € 5.00 * is applied.

It is noted that in case the limits of each starting block that the runner wishes to be place have been completed, then he/she is placed in the next starting block with availability.

Finally, changes to the starting blocks will be made within reasonable limits, depending on the best finish time of the runner. E.g. A runner with best finish time at 40 minutes in a 5km distance will NOT be placed in the first starting blocks.

 Attention: Such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will only be made if deemed feasible.


9) Cancellation of registration

Cancellations are possible strictly until 10 September 2022. Cancellation request should only be sent to the following email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

In all cases of cancellations requests sent up until the above date to the above email, the registration fee is refunded to the applicant, after the deduction of 10.00€ as handling fees, regardless the race of registration. It is noted that any NGO donations are non-refundable.

* The penalty fee for these changes is applied as handling fees, as well as to cover the cost of producing new blank bib number envelopes, which will be given to runners for the above changes. The penalty fee is not applied in the case 1, 4 and 5.

Cancellation requests sent after 10 September 2022  are not accepted and there is no possibility for refunds

Deferral of one’s entry to the 2023 edition of “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” is NOT possible.


In case of confirmed cancellations, refunds are settled as below:

1. In case the payment of the registration fee was settled via debit /credit card and as long as the card remains active, the refund is completed within seven (7) business days.

2. In case the payment of the registration fee was settled via bank wire or in case the debit /credit card used for payment of the registration fee has expired, the refund is completed within 90 days after the end of the event.

In case the payment of the registration fee was settled via bank wire or the debit /credit card used for payment has expired, the applicant should send the full details of his /her bank account* via email for the refund (Bank Name, Beneficiary Name and IBAN). Please note that any remittance costs will be borne by the recipient.

    * Please note that in case the applicant's bank account belongs to a bank outside of European Union, additional bank account details might be requested in order to complete the transaction.


It is noted that the runners who deferred their registration from the 2021 edition of Athens Marathon to this year's event, do NOT have the possibility to further defer their entry or cancel their registration. However, in case they are unable to participate in the event, they reserve the right to change the name/ replace their registration with a person according to the instructions mentioned in the category "Registrations Management".


Cancellation of the Event Due to COVID-19

In the case that the 2022 “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” event is cancelled or the Health Protocol of the event is changed after relevant order by the Greek State due to possible health protection measures against the coronavirus pandemic or due to other unforeseen circumstances, the registration of each runner will automatically be transferred/deferred to the next Athens Marathon event and the participation will follow the general terms & regulations of the new event. The same process will apply to the excessive number of runners, in case the number of participants is reduced by a decision of the Greek State, and the participants will be determined in terms of registration priority order.

What is the date of the “Athens Marathon. The Authentic”?

“Athens Marathon. The Authentic” is an annual event that takes place every second weekend of November.

The date for the 39th “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” is 12 & 13 of November 2022.
The 10k Road Race OPAP will be held on Saturday 12th November 2022 and the Marathon Race, the 5km Road Race STOIXIMAN , as well as the Kids Race will be held on Sunday 13th November 2022.

How can I register?

Please read our Terms & Conditions of Participation to confirm that you are eligible to participate in our Races.

The Official Registration Period for "Athens Marathon. The Authentic" event opens approximately 6 months before the race date. Registrations will automatically close once the participation limit per race is met or on 1st October at the latest. All registrations are submitted online.

How can I pay?

After you submit your entry form, you may settle your registration fee with either of the following ways:

I have not received the confirmation email, what should I do?

The registration confirmation emails are sent within seven (7) business days after you have succesfully submitted and settled your registration fee as per instructions (read above in “How can I pay?”)

After the seven (7) days have passed and you still have not received it:

1. Check your spam folder in case the e-mail bounced there
2. If you still have not found it, make sure you have followed ALL the payment instructions

How do I find my bib number?

About ten (10) days before the race, all runners who have successfully registered for any of the event's races will receive an email, informing them about their exact bib number and starting block.


Where do I pick up my bib number and race kit?

All runners are asked to collect their bib numbers and race kits from the Runners' Center & Marathon EXPO, hosted in the Faliro Indoor Hall & Exhibition Centre of Athens, at the Olympic Faliro Coastal Zone.

The Runners' Center will be open for the public as follows:

Wednesday 9 November 2022: 13.00 – 20.00
Thursday 10 November 2022: 10.00 – 20.00
Friday 11 November 2022: 10.00 – 20.00
Saturday 12 November 2022: 10.00 – 18.00

Note that, entrance to the Runners' Center will be possible ONLY with the presentation of a valid COVID-19 Certificate.

Is there a bag check/depository?

Runners must hand in the kit bag with their personal clothing to the volunteers at the designated areas at least 30 minutes before the start of the race. After finishing the race, runners, assisted by volunteers, may collect back their kit bag presenting their bib number.


What transportation services do you offer for the Marathon Race?

Free Transportation to the Start Area of the Marathon Race is offered by the Organizing Committee, and ONLY for registered runners. 

Buses by The Athen Marathon Organizing Committee will be departing constantly from five (5) different points within the Athens Center, from 05.30AM up to 06.45AM, for the (direct and without any stop) transportation of all runners participating in the Marathon Race to the Marathon Start area. After 06.45AM, it will be no longer possible for late runners to use our transportation system and they need to take care of their own transportation to the Marathon Start area, by their own means.

POST RACE

Where can I see my photos of the race?

You can find individual photos of the race through the webiste of the event's Official Photo Agency marathonphotos.live, a few days after the race.


Where can I see my results?

You can find your results here.

Note that right after the completion of each race you can view the Unofficial Results on our website. Runners have the oportunity to object their race results within five (5) business days. After that period any objections are recorded-investigated and resolved and the Official Results of each race are announced. After the announcement of the Official Results any runners that is included in them can download for free their Cartificate of Participation through the website of marathonphotos.live.
