Athens will be the center of the global running movement in the second week of November, as more than 65,000 runners from 140 countries will flood the streets of Athens and Attica to participate in all distances in this year's 40th Athens Marathon (11-12/11).

Initial expectations exceeded all precedents as more than 20,000 runners will stand on the historic starting line in Marathon. It is the first time in the history of the event that such a large number of athletes of all levels will participate in the 42,195 m.

Participation in the Athens Authentic Marathon is traditionally the ardent desire of runners from all over the world. The completion of 40 years since the first event gave extra motivation to runners from Greece and abroad, who sought to stand at the starting line of this year's race and participate in the festivities.

For a few more days, registrations for the OPAP 10km Road Race and the Universities Night Run by OPAP will remain open, while the 40th anniversary medal will be presented in the near future.
